Systém BikeID jednoduchým spôsobom minimalizuje riziko krádeže tým, že na vrchnej rámovej rúre sa nachádza nerezový štítok alebo holografická nálepka s jedinečným QR kódom bicykla.
Prečítaním kódu smartfónom (alebo PC s web kamerou) vieme zistiť, či bicykel stále patrí svojmu majiteľovi (môžeme ho anonymne kontaktovať), alebo je hľadaný či kradnutý.
Pri kradnutom bicykli vieme určiť kde a kedy bol zosnímaný (GPS lokalizácia), o čom má majiteľ prehľad priamo na mape vo svojom profile. Dohľadanie majiteľa smartfónu podľa IP adresy je v rukách polície.
